Fundamental Right

Article 8 — Laws inconsistent with or in derogation of Fundamental Rights to be void
Provides that laws inconsistent with the Fundamental Rights are void to the extent of the inconsistency, subject to the constitutional exceptions.

Article 9 — Security of person
Provides protection of life and liberty according to law.

Article 9A — Clean and healthy environment
Provides for the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment.

Article 10 — Safeguards as to arrest and detention
Provides constitutional safeguards for persons who are arrested or detained, including information about the grounds of arrest and access to legal representation.

Article 10A — Right to fair trial
Provides the right to a fair trial and due process for determination of civil rights and obligations or criminal charges.

Article 11 — Slavery, forced labour, etc., prohibited
Prohibits slavery, trafficking in human beings and forced labour, subject to constitutional provisions concerning compulsory service.

Article 12 — Protection against retrospective punishment
Protects a person from punishment for an act that was not an offence when it was committed and restricts retrospective increases in punishment.

Article 13 — Protection against double punishment and self-incrimination
Protects a person from being punished more than once for the same offence and from being compelled to give evidence against himself.

Article 14 — Inviolability of dignity of man, etc.
Protects the dignity of a person and, subject to law, the privacy of home. It also prohibits torture for obtaining evidence.

Article 15 — Freedom of movement, etc.
Provides citizens with the right to remain in, enter, move freely throughout, and reside and settle in Pakistan, subject to reasonable legal restrictions.

Article 16 — Freedom of assembly
Provides citizens the right to assemble peacefully and without arms, subject to reasonable restrictions imposed in the interest of public order.

Article 17 — Freedom of association
Provides citizens the right to form associations or unions, subject to constitutional and legal restrictions.

Article 18 — Freedom of trade, business or profession
Provides citizens with the right to enter lawful professions, occupations, trades and businesses, subject to regulation by law.

Article 19 — Freedom of speech, etc.
Provides freedom of speech and expression and freedom of the press, subject to constitutionally permitted reasonable restrictions.

Article 19A — Right to information
Provides citizens with the right to have access to information in matters of public importance, subject to regulation and reasonable restrictions prescribed by law.

Article 20 — Freedom to profess religion and to manage religious institutions
Provides citizens with the right to profess, practise and propagate their religion and permits religious denominations and sects to establish and manage their religious institutions, subject to law and public order and morality.

Article 21 — Safeguard against taxation for purposes of any particular religion
Protects a person from being compelled to pay a special tax whose proceeds are specifically used for the propagation or maintenance of a religion other than their own.

Article 22 — Safeguards as to educational institutions in respect of religion
Provides safeguards concerning religious instruction in educational institutions and protects students from being required to receive religious instruction or participate in religious worship contrary to their religion.

Article 23 — Provision as to property
Provides citizens with the right to acquire, hold and dispose of property in any part of Pakistan, subject to the Constitution and reasonable restrictions imposed by law in the public interest.

Article 24 — Protection of property rights
Protects property from compulsory acquisition except in accordance with law and subject to the constitutional requirements concerning public purpose and compensation.

Article 25 — Equality of citizens
Provides that all citizens are equal before law and entitled to equal protection of law. It prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex while permitting special provisions for the protection of women and children.

Article 25A — Right to education
Requires the State to provide free and compulsory education to all children of a specified age group in the manner determined by law.

Article 26 — Non-discrimination in respect of access to public places
Prohibits discrimination against citizens in access to places of public entertainment or resort on specified grounds, subject to constitutional exceptions.

Article 27 — Safeguard against discrimination in services
Provides safeguards against discrimination in appointments to the service of Pakistan on specified grounds, subject to constitutional provisions concerning representation and qualifications.

Article 28 — Preservation of language, script and culture
Provides citizens having a distinct language, script or culture with the right to preserve and promote it and, subject to law, establish institutions for that purpose.
