Privacy Policy

Wakeel Baba (“we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting the privacy of everyone who uses this website. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By using Wakeel Baba, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Who We Are

Wakeel Baba is an independent legal studies library offering references, descriptions, and reading access to statutory and scholarly legal materials from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

If you have any questions about this policy, you can reach us at admin@wakeelbaba.com.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide — We only collect personal information you voluntarily provide. This may include:

  • Your email address if you write to us for support, corrections, book suggestions, or copyright notices
  • Your name and message content when you contact us
  • Any attachments or screenshots you include in an email

Information stored on your device — Wakeel Baba uses your browser’s local storage — not cookies — to remember:

  • Your theme preference (dark or light mode)
  • Your bookmarks (the books you’ve saved)
  • Your reading position in multi-chapter books
  • Any study notes you write against a book

This data never leaves your device. It is stored only in your browser and is not transmitted to our servers. You can clear it at any time from your browser’s settings.

Information automatically collected — Like most websites, our hosting provider may automatically log basic technical information for security and diagnostic purposes, including your IP address, browser type, referring page, and pages visited. This information is not linked to your identity and is used only in aggregate.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect only to:

  • Respond to your emails and enquiries
  • Investigate and correct reported errors
  • Consider and, where appropriate, act on copyright notices
  • Improve the content, structure, and usability of the library
  • Protect the website against abuse, spam, or unauthorised access

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party. We do not use your information for advertising profiling.

4. Cookies and Local Storage

Wakeel Baba does not use tracking cookies. The only client-side storage we use is local storage, which keeps your preferences and study data on your own device. This is a privacy-respecting alternative to cookies and is never shared with us.

If your browser blocks local storage, the site will still work; you simply won’t be able to save bookmarks or notes between visits.

5. Third-Party Services

Wakeel Baba may load resources from the following third parties to deliver the site:

  • Google Fonts — to display the typography used in this theme. Google’s own privacy policy applies to those requests.
  • Your web host — Hostinger or another hosting provider stores the site files and may log basic request data.

We do not embed advertising networks, social media trackers, or analytics scripts that identify individual users.

6. Legal Basis for Processing

Where applicable under the GDPR or similar regulations, we process your email information on the basis of your consent (you chose to write to us) and our legitimate interest in operating and improving the library.

7. Data Retention

Email correspondence is retained only as long as necessary to resolve your enquiry and any follow-up. Copyright notices are retained for the duration required by applicable law. Automatically logged request data is retained by our hosting provider under their standard policy, typically for a few weeks.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Request that we correct or delete that information
  • Withdraw consent to any processing based on consent
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

To exercise any of these rights, email admin@wakeelbaba.com with the subject line “Data Request”.

9. Children’s Privacy

Wakeel Baba is intended for law students, practitioners, and researchers. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to us, please contact us and we will delete it.

10. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the information we hold, including using HTTPS to encrypt traffic between your browser and our servers. No method of transmission or storage is 100 percent secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. International Transfers

Our hosting provider may store or process data in countries other than your own. Where this occurs, we rely on the provider’s safeguards to protect the information in accordance with applicable law.

12. Copyright and Content

Wakeel Baba hosts only content that is in the public domain, released under a Creative Commons licence, or used with explicit written permission from the rights holder. For all other works, we provide only bibliographic references, short excerpts within fair use, and links to the original publisher.

If you are a rights holder and believe that content on this site infringes your copyright, please write to admin@wakeelbaba.com with the subject line “Copyright Notice” and include the details listed on our Contact page. We will review every notice promptly.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of the page. Continued use of Wakeel Baba after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
